We are so grateful to work with the UW Engineering students each year. During the course of a semester, they focus on various adaptive equipment projects for UCP clients. The students design and fabricate adaptive aids that are not commercially available.
Recently, the Engineering students developed an adaptive kitchen cart that enables us to offer an Independent Living Skills class to clients who may have limited mobility. With adjustable height, the cart may be used by anyone using a wheelchair. It features a bowl holder, a modified Swiss Cutting Board, a jar opener and a remote button that can turn on and off any kitchen appliance wirelessly. All the kitchen tools on the cart are operable with one hand. The design is simple so that anyone with some basic tools may replicate it. Click here for design instructions.
