We work with an older gentleman named John, who loves to play cards. He has his own version of solitaire that he plays on a daily basis.
Due to issues he has with his hands, playing cards on a flat surface has become more challenging for John. The game he plays includes lining cards up in rows of seven.
We designed an adaptive cardholder to ease the discomfort of holding them by hand. Using a ¾ inch oak board, we created slots to hold three rows of 7 cards. The angles of the slots and the angle of the cardholder surface are set at 30-degree angles.
This simple adaptation enables John to continue to enjoy his daily activity and is easily replicated for others with a similar need.
