Connect the Tots

“Connect the Tots” provides a unique opportunity for families and “tots” to connect the dots in impactful ways. Through the lens of early intervention core principles and evidenced-based practices, we seek to support and educate parents and other primary care providers in their child’s overall development.

Through purposeful play groups for children ages birth through 5, we focus on fostering social, emotional, and developmental growth through guided activities. Parents are empowered with valuable tools to support their child’s development in a safe, supportive environment, while building connections with others on a similar journey.

We seek to accomplish the following:

  • Provide an emotionally, socially, and physically safe space allowing parents to drop their guard. A place where achievements are not defined through comparison and task completion but rather by experience and individual growth.
  • Empower parents through fun and guided learning opportunities. We provide a fun and unique experience where parents learn valuable skills with their children that enhances their skills and their child’s development.
  • Give participants a sense of purpose and direction on how to integrate what they learned in each session into their everyday lives.
  • Enhance children’s social and emotional skills by providing a place where children can play, learn and practice their emerging skills with other children.
  • Provide a place where parents can connect with other parents through shared experiences and commonality, creating a natural circle of support that is so often missing.

What to Expect: Led by our Youth and Early Childhood Enrichment Coordinator, Connect the Tots is offered once a week for an eight week themed session. Each hour long class includes a welcome and warm up, guided activities, time for collaborations, reflection or questions and a wrap up. Participation is always at the comfort of the family and their child.

Each week we focus on different and overlapping developmental areas. Lessons and activities are created and reviewed by UCP’s licensed teachers, speech pathologist, occupational therapists and physical therapist. Areas of focus will include:

  • communication and language
  • physical development
  • personal, social and emotion development
  • cognitive growth (literacy, mumeracy, sensory exploration)
